African American Museum of Plano

Plano African American Museum's mission is to tell the story of the fortitude it took to endure the hardships of slavery, the commitment to the dream of freedom and the many citizens that helped along the way. Our story is America's history. The Museum is housed in a historic home deeded to John and Charity Thornton (a black couple) in the late 1800's at a time when it was impossible for African Americans to own property. The house sits in a historic community in Plano that serves as the first African American community in Plano, TX.
