The primary function of the Pines Animal Welfare society (PAWS) is to provide a lost and found service to the seasonal community of fire island Pines, New York and adjacent areas. Our volunteers provide registration forms and numbered tags in order to identify and recover lost pets. Pines Animal welfase society maintains a 24 hour telephone line to report lost or found pets.PAWS provides community residents with the information for any pet emergency and assists with any wildlife questions through veterinary contacts and the national park service. As a majority of the summer residents and their guest are urban dwellers, the organization has become invaluable to the community. There are increasing numbers of abandoned pets and the offspring discovered each fall in the community. PAWS volunteers recover these animals, provide them with vetinary care and temporary boarding while awaiting placement in permanent homes.
