Saint dominic's is a leader in community based and residential services with the goal of helping people in need to reach their potential through compassionate professional care and quality services fostered by a family-focused culture and environment. Our heritage Saint dominic's is a Catholic agency founded in 1878 by the dominican sisters of blauvelt as a home for immigrant children abandoned on the streets of New York City. Today, Saint dominic's continues the mission of foundress mother mary ann sammon to compassionately care for those in need and better their lives. Every day, professional care and compassion are provided to a diverse population of nearly 1,800 children, adolescents, adults and families in need throughout the Bronx and lower hudson valley, regardless of race, religion or ethnicity. This ranges from children with needs born into families shattered by violence, neglect and abandonment and the devastating effects of poverty to children and adults with a broad spectrum of developmental disabilities and adolescents and children with severe emotional disabilities to adults with mental illness and preschoolers living in impoverished areas. Saint dominic's 830 dedicated staff members work in more than 40 programs including family foster care, adoption, special needs education, therapeutic preschool education, community based services and community residences for adults with mental illness or developmental disabilities.
