The Graduate center foundation is committed to promoting and safe-guarding the success of the Graduate center by raising funds and managing and investing donations for use by the Graduate center. The board of trustees of the foundation serves as advisors to the president of the Graduate center. The board works to heighten the visibility of the Graduate center and to raise awareness of the Graduate center's contribution to higher education and its cultural vitality in New York City. The Graduate center foundation housing corporation and the Graduate center housing corporation lic are subsidiaries of the Graduate center foundation. The board of trustees of the housing corporation oversees the management of streicker hall on east 118th street. Streicker hall provide an affordable housing option to Graduate center students and faculty. The Graduate center, cuny, is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at the city university of New York (cuny), the nation's largest urban public university. With over 35 doctoral and master's programs of the highest caliber, the Graduate center fosters pioneering research and scholarship in the arts and sciences and prepares students for careers in universities and the private, nonprofit, and government sectors. The Graduate center's commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its advanced science research center, a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences. The Graduate center benefits from highly ambitious and diverse students and alumni-who in turn teach hundreds of thousands of undergraduates every year. Through its public programs, the Graduate center enhances New York City's intellectual and cultural life. The Graduate center is located in the heart of Manhattan and set within the large and multi-campus city university of New York. It fosters advanced Graduate education, original research and scholarship, innovative university-wide programs, and vibrant public events that draw upon and contribute to the complex communities of New York City and beyond. Through a broad range of nationally prominent doctoral programs, the Graduate school prepares students to be scholars, teachers, experts, and leaders in the academy, the arts and in the private, nonprofit, and government sectors.
