Birthright Israel began with a bold idea; offer the gift of a free, life-changing, 10 day trip to Israel to young Jewish adults between the ages of 18-26, and in doing so transform the Jewish future. Founded in 1999 by a remarkable group of committed Jewish philanthropists led by charles bronfman and michael steinhardt, Birthright Israel aims to strengthen Jewish identity, build a lasting bond with the land & people of Israel & reinforce the solidarity of Jewish people world-wide. Since inception, rigorous research has been conducted to evaluate the program & learn its impact. Evidence from the studies indicates that participation in the program positively alters participants' connection to Israel.as a result of the iron swords war which began on october 7th, bri was forced to shut down its educational trips scheduled for december 2023 but did host 708 volunteer participants. For 2024, bri is planning for 18,500 educational and 3,800 volunteer participants.
