December is a stressful time for people alone or in need of food assistance. Our Project alleviates some of that stress by providing extra holiday food that does not reduce benefits from other programs. Those we serve represent about 14% of the entire County's population. More than 93% of funds raised are spent directly on staples for food boxes, gift cards for purchasing fresh food, children's toys and gift cards, and toiletries. With our dual-language online form, more than 90% of our clients register successfully on their own. For language, literacy and access issues, we provide phone or in-person assistance. For clients without transportation, we arrange volunteer delivery to their homes, to the local shelter serving unhoused persons, and to a senior subsidized housing complex. Hispanic board members/volunteers advise regarding serving our latinx community, ensuring foods are culturally appropriate for the holidays.
