Mission and vision the Hanalei River Heritage foundation (HRHF) is a nonprofit organization based in hawai`I that aims to preserve, revitalize, and promote the cultural, environmental, and historical Heritage of Hanalei and kaua`I island. Grounded in the hawaiian cultural concept of ike kupuna (traditional knowledge and wisdom), the foundation focuses on cultural-based environmental stewardship. HRHF believes that the best way to raise awareness both locally and globally about the importance of malama `aina (caring for the land) is to start with the youth, actively involving them as stewards of the environment, culture, and language. Recent and ongoing projects -pu`uhonua o `uhau`iole project HRHF received state funding through the grant-in-aid (gia) to support restoration, maintenance, and education programs at key cultural sites on kaua`I. This project focuses on the restoration of lo`I kalo, taro patches, and Native plant species, as well as hosting community workshops and workdays
