To organize all career firefighters; to secure just compensation for services and equitable settlement of grievances; to promote the continuing advancement of just reasonable working conditions; to place members of the local on higher plane of skills and efficiency; to promote harmonious relations between the firefighters and their employer; to encourage the formation of other local unions; to participate in the associated firefighters of Illinois and other joint councils; to aid in the formation of sick and death benefit funds; to encourage the establishment of schools and instruction for imparting knowledge of modern and improved methods of firefighting; to assist in providing the residents of the Downers Grove fire department with professional and efficient career firefighters; to cultivate fellowship and friendship among its members.
