This is in accordance with one of the stated purposes in the articles of organization. This property is surrounded on three sides by the Kaskaskia River. There are 2.5 miles of levees to keep the water from the river from flooding too much. There are also two pumps, one 16 inch, and one eight inch, to pump water from the river when it is too dry to be good waterfowl habitat and to pump water from the property back into the river when it has been flooded too much. This keeps a balance of water needed to maintain good waterfowl habitat. The flat land on the site is planted with corn to feed the waterfowl and deer, along with other wild animals.
