Habitat for humanity works in partnership with god and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with god's people in need by building and renovating houses so there are decent homes in communities in which people can live and grow. We select famlies with income that is 30 to 50 percent of the country's median income, living in substandard housing. The family must be able to put in at least 300 hours of sweat equity in the build of their home. We work with businesses to get donated or discounted materials wherever possible and we call for volunteers, and with a very capable construction manager taking the lead, a home is built. Ownership of the home is given to the family in the form of a no interest mortgage with payments that are usually under $400 per month.
