The foundation acquired 60 acres of land in afton, mn, and established a nature center for conservation, education, public recreation, and promotion of sustainable land-based enterprises. As part of their effort to promote conservation, the foundation is working to restore and maintain the land as an oak savanna, an open grassland studded by tall, spreading oak trees that provide an attractive ecosystem for many animals. With regard to education, the foundation intends to host talks and events on the land to educate the public about the natural history of the land as well as the critical importance of conservation and sustainable agriculture. The foundation would like to make the land a place for public recreation and to that end, allows public access to a netowrk of over 6 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails. Lastly, the foundation is working on establishing a community garden on the land that may be used to educate the public regarding sustainable agriculture.
