The Essex Fire company, inc. (EFC) is a private organization consisting of members of the town of Essex, ma fire department (efd). The efd is a call/volunteer organization and provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services within the town and on a mutual aid basis as required. The EFC is primarily a relief and community service organization which maintains three funds, each with its own purpose. The reserve fund is used to assist a firefighter/emt who is injured on the job, above and beyond what town insurance provides. The scholarship fund provides an annual 1,000 to two Essex residents graduating from high school and attending post-secondary education. The general fund is used to provide firefighter gear and equipment EFC members request which is unable to be acquired through the town budget. The general fund also covers the day to day costs of operating of the EFC.
