The base ball, inc. d/b/a the base ("the base or the organization") is a not-for-profit organization working to shift the national mindset and re-imagine pathways to success for urban youth. Founded in roxbury, ma, the base operates in Boston and in 2018, began operating on the westside of Chicago, il ("base Chicago"). The base provides student athletes with year-round, superior athletic and academic training, access to college fairs and showcases, professional visits, and academic scholarships available through partnerships with several colleges and universities throughout the country. The base also trains and supports a growing network of coaches, many of whom are alumni of the base and its predecessor ballclub, the Boston astros ("astros"). The organization has built a strong set of relationships with government, private sector, community leaders, colleges and universities, other not-for-profits, private foundations, and individuals who are committed to changing minds, lives and the status quo. The base's distinctive methodology leverages sports as a vehicle to engage youth in a positive, rigorous, passionate and success-driven environment with the goal of excellence, both on and off the field, ensuring that each student athlete graduates from high school and is equipped with a winning game plan for life. The base and the astros have served over 9,000 boys and girls through its base teams, leagues, tournaments, instruction/conditioning and partners. Several former base and astros student athletes are currently competing at the major league baseball level. Since inception, over 350 base graduates have matriculated to college.
