"Outlaw a" has been created as an educational interactive archive of books, documents, photographs, artifacts and other materials relating to history, art, architecture, design, technology, and other topic areas. Its mission is to provide original materials to interested individuals and organizations with a greater degree of access and flexibility than is typically provided by traditional museums, libraries and archives. Most established museums, libraries and archives maintain strict controls over the accessibility, lending and duplication of their materials, putting valuable educational resources out-of-reach for many schools, public institutions and interested individuals. Believing that "hands on" accessibility to original historical materials is a highly-effective way to share and spread vital ideas and information, "Outlaw a" is devoted to making its materials as accessible as possible. Because this approach is so unconventional, the name "Outlaw a" is short for "Outlaw archive".
