The mission of the cvc is to advance patient access to Cardiovascular care, particularly as it relates to peripheral artery disease (pad). The cvc recognizes that pad is a leading - and preventable - cause of death in the United States. It is estimated that 20 Million persons in the United States have pad, which can lead to critical limb ischemia (cli) and then amputation. The number of amputations performed annually in the United States is estimated to be 200,000 with almost 43,000 Medicare patients per year receiving non-traumatic amputations. In addition, there are significant racial disparities in amputation rates among african-american, Native American, and hispanic populations. Members of the cvc are dedicated to: 1. Earlier detection of pad; 2. Minimally-invasive treatment of pad; 3. Reducing the overall number of amputations, as well as related racial disparities, in the United States; 4. Payment stability and predictability for pad and other Cardiovascular interventions; 5. Improved incentives for appropriate care through payment reform; and 6. Collecting and reporting of relevant patient data to improve outcomes over time.
