Mesa is a 53 year old non profit organization that "fosters the study of the Middle East, promotes high standards of scholarship and teaching, and encourages public unerstanding of the region and it's programs, publications and services that enhance education, further intellectual exchange, recognize professional distinction, and defend academic freedom." in previous years, dr. Ahmed has participated in panel discussions which were attended by dignitaries, political, international scholars and practitioners who reviewed and analyzed different aspects of this problem with a view to identifying remedies needed for addressing the political, economic, civil and human rights of these people under international law. Dr. Ahmed's activities have included authoring and publishing a book titled "how the shiites won the battle against Islamic state: kurds & sunnis in iraq". "the book sheds light on how the shiite-dominated government's sectarian policies deepened the divide between iraq's major c
