To promote, further and support an American merchant marine on the oceans in both foreign and coastwise service, the Great Lakes and our inland waterways; to promote shipyards and other allied industries, adequate to meet the requirements of national security and economic welfare of the United States; to promote waterborne commerce and the marine industry generally in all its segments; to aide worthy and economically justifiable river, inland waterways and harbor improvements; to conduct annually an American merchant marine and maritime industry conference; to collaborate with other organizations whose members are dedicated to the promotion of the best interests of American maritime shipping andallied industries; and to encourage the development of trade with othercountries.
