Magnetic spinal applications program instability and degeneration of the spine is a debilitating condition that affects millions of people. Treatments typically involve surgical stabilization with varying results and wide variation in outcomes. In 2020, FOR began research and development on the magnetic spinal applications program to build on the technologies and apply knowledge gained in earlier related basic science programs. Year 202 activities included further 3-dimensional modelling of optimized magnetic field configurations, simulated implant designs, and their interactions with models of the human body were conducted. Other activities included regulatory filing made and refined and safety and efficacy testing expanded on in response to regulatory feedback. Additional vendors FOR magnetic materials and coating were contracted and refined devices were manufactured to support the research and development phase and FOR regulatory requirements.
