The National wwii Museum tells the story of the American experience in (continued on schedule o) the war that changed the World-why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today-so that all generations will understand the price of freedom and be inspired by what they learn.founded on the vision of noted historian and author stephen ambrose, the institution opened on june 6, 2000, as the National d-day Museum. An overwhelming response from elected officials, veterans, and the general public led to its 2004 designation by congress as America's National World WAR Ii Museum. With that distinction, the Museum expanded its mission to cover the complete, epic story of World WAR Ii and donned a new name, the National wwii Museum.
