The center's mission is to understand the causes of obesity and type 2diabetes in youth and to implement early age evidence based programs toprevent both diseases. The most significant activities were reports showing that the center's school Health programs decreased obesity rates and blood glucose levels in high risk children. The Social and Health Research center is a not-for-profit center committed to the Social and Health well-being of populations at-risk. The bienestar/neema Health program is a bilingual school-based Health program(k-8th) that aims to decrease dietary fat, to increase physical fitness levels, to prevent obesity, and to prevent Diabetes. The Health program is Research-based and implements k-8th grade learning activities from a Social cognitive theory.
