The purpose of the Jeffrey j. DYE Leadership foundation (JJDLF) is to identify high potential students and to facilitate their education in the governmental and political processes of the United States. The first active program entitled "the Washington experience" sponsors university students in their junior year to spend an academic semester in Washington, d. C. the students enroll in either the American university Washington semester program or the Washington center for internships and academic seminars. They receive appropriate academic credit for their internship, usually 12 to 15 semester hours. The students contribute an amount similar to the amount they would have paid at their home university. The Jeffrey j. DYE Leadership foundation funds the gap in tuition, living and travel expenses.
