Kallir Research Institute

The Kallir Research institute maintains a library and extensive archives devoted to austrian and German modernists (in particular, richard gerstl, gustav klimt, kthe kollwitz, alfred kubin, and egon schiele) and self-taught artists (in particular, grandma moses), which it makes available to qualified researchers. The institute also assists public institutions in curating and securing loans for public exhibitions. In 2024, the institute helped coordinate loans for exhibitions at the neue galerie New York, the art institute of Chicago and the museum of modern art. Institute staff also wrote catalogue essays and provided curatorial advice for two 2025 exhibitions, at the smithsonian American art museum and the leopold museum in vienna.in addition to the above, the Kallir Research institute maintains and updates the catalogues raisonns of egon schiele, grandma moses and richard gerstl. The digital version of the schiele catalogue was launched in 2018 (egonschieleonline.org) and is presently being updated. Digital versions of the moses and gerstl catalogues will follow.
