The BRG represents and promotes its members' interests as dotbrand operators. As an association, the BRG works to improve and develop domain name policies and operational practices in support of BRG members' dotbrand registries. Typically, running a top-level-domain Registry is not part of an organization's core business, so the BRG brings together members with common interest and issues they would like to address. A "dotbrand" is a delegated top-level domain that is identical to an organization's name or BRAND that the organization owns or has rights in. A "dotbrand" allows a BRAND-holder to operate its own Registry at the root of the internet (instead of using legacy top-level-domains, such as .com, .org, or .biz). Companies from different industries applied for their dotbrand in 2012 and over 550 are now live, providing a trusted space where BRAND owners have complete control of the domain allocation that supports their businesses.
