The Court-Access Project is a not-for-profit organization, created for the sole purpose of eliminating the global problem of illegal pretrial detention between arrest and first court appearance by using technology and, specifically, the Court-Access app. The Court-Access app is a simple and inexpensive digital system to notify courts of all arrests. Using a smart-phone type device, the police will enter basic relevant information about a suspect on the Court-Access app at the time of arrest. Applying local laws, the app will automatically calculate the day the suspect must appear before an independent magistrate and notify the clerk of the court. The court clerk will then place the suspect on the court's calendar on the statutorily set day. If the suspect does not appear in court that day, the magistrate will know and order the detaining authorities to produce him in court.
