24th Street, inc., provides to aa and al-anon groups what they can not provide for themselves. Most aa and al-anon groups meet in churches, hospitals, treatment centers, or similar type places. Under long standing traditions, these groups never own building or meeting halls. This allows aa and al-anon groups to avoid the inevitable problems and controversies that too often arise from property ownership; instead, these groups can solely focus on recovery. Unfortunately, there are negative aspects of having to meet at the places mentioned above, such as being at the mercy of other entities' scheduling, inability to accommodate storage needs, etc. while these other organizations want to assist with aa and al-anon, that is not their primary purpose. 24th Street, inc. was established to make sure that aa and al-anon groups in athens can focus all of their energy on recovery (or, in the case of al-anon, the effects of alcoholism).
