In 2024, lazy point farms (lpf) provided the consultation necessary for cultivation success, funding for spools to local kelp farmers and entities engaged in growing, harvesting, and processing kelp. Funds were allocated towards analysis of kelp tissue, gametophyte cultures and acquisition of equipment related to gametophyte culturing and storage, social media advocacy, community building initiatives, and educational outreach regarding the diverse uses and benefits of kelp cultivation within ny state waters. Furthermore, lpf designed and funded innovative two-stage processing equipment for local commercial growers, which was subsequently granted to suffolk and brookhaven counties. Demonstrating a commitment to product development and local collaboration, the organization funded a kelp food trial in partnership with violet cove oyster company and east end food. This initiative aimed to create two novel seaweed products for local distribution, educational purposes, and sale by growers.
