GFD works to support and elevate the health, well-being, and education of indigenous mayan children and families in remote, rural guatemalan communities through philanthropy, aid, and in-person service. Together, with our ngo partner in verapaz, we create and implement sustainable solutions to the tragic reality facing mayan communities, including: ~ 80% of children are chronically malnourished. ~ only 1% have access to clean drinking water. ~ 5% of girls reach 3rd grade. ~ 10% of communities have any source of electricity. ~ 90% of adults are illiterate - even fewer speak Spanish. ~ 1% of communities have proper sanitation. ~ 75% of children, under age 8, have intestinal parasites. ~ 80% of people earn less than 2 per day/10 hours of manual work. The mayan communities we support do not have access to electricity, safe drinking water, proper sanitation, adequate schools (especially for girls) sustainable food sources, passable roads, or reliable medical care.
