Family Literacy Centers assist families and individuals learn to effectively read, write and communicate in English through one-to-one tutoring assistance delivered via self-instructional on-line learning material and from trained volunteers and parents. Historically, Family Literacy Centers established brick and mortar learning Centers in both rural and urban communities across the United States. Because of the increased reach provided by the internet, Family Literacy Centers has been able to extend their services to many other parts of the world. These learning Centers have been successfully organized in a variety of facilities, including public libraries, senior Centers, correctional facilities, public assistance Centers, homes, and churches. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Family Literacy Centers now focuses on working with individuals and families in home settings using web-based resources rather than within other brick and mortar facilities.
