The Grand Penn Community Alliance's mission (Alliance) is to educate and raise the general awareness of the public significant benefits and historical background of penn station and to advocate for a major renovation of penn station to return it to its Grand and glorious prominence serving as a world-class, sustainable public space and transportation destination that will transform the neighborhood and serve the needs of commuters, Community, businesses, and visitors in an uplifting and gratifying building that relates to the design and architecture of the original penn station and the existing Grand central terminal. Alliance has a particular focus on the use of classical architecture for public buildings, monuments, or works, lessening neighborhood tensions by incorporating good planning principles to resolve land use conflicts, and combating Community deterioration by fostering a shared commitment to improvement. Alliance's activities include holding events, creating online materials highlighting Alliance's missions. Alliance's activities are conducted by combination of volunteers and independent consultants who are engaged by Alliance. Alliance's activities are funded 100 percent by donations and all of its expenses are allocated towards furthering its exempt purposes. Alliance promotes this civic betterment vision by engaging the public and public stakeholders directly and indirectly. Direct engagement has included policy briefings with elected and public officials, sponsorship of and participation in media events, establishment of a website and social media feeds, and survey research on public attitudes towards penn station, its impact on the Community and alternative visions for it and the surrounding area. Alliance regularly interacts with other civic organizations sharing a compatible vision for the facility and the neighborhood. In addition, Alliance representatives are frequently interviewed by and quoted in major New York City media, and sought out to provide expert commentary and education on development plans for the area.
