Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society

The corporation is organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes which include inspiring curiosity, appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of lake tahoe's art, history, and environment through Preservation, education, and conservation. Specifically: (a) preserving, protecting, and interpreting the cultural, natural, and historic resources of Northern nevada and Northern California, including the whittell estate (Thunderbird Lodge) national historic district, Thunderbird yacht, the artifacts and collections of the region and its people, and such other public works, monuments, and lands the corporation deems worthy of conservation or Preservation. (b) educating and promoting public appreciation regarding the culture, art, heritage, science, environment, and history of lake tahoe and its contributing States through public tours and experiences. (c) conserving and interpreting the fragile lake tahoe area environment and regional landscapes by undertaking and/or facilitating scientific study and programs; and (d) engaging in such other lawful activities as are consistent with the foregoing charitable, educational, and/or scientific purposes, within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code of 1986, as amended, or the corresponding provisions of any future United States internal revenue law.
