In august 2015, doug leech, then-thirty-six (36) years old, enthusiastic about exercise, a husband and father of two children, was diagnosed with stage 3 hodgkin Lymphoma. After eight months of Chemotherapy and twenty-two radiation treatments, doug discovered he had stage 4 cancer in his bone marrow. Doug subsequently received three months of treatments via stem cell transplant at md anderson, including an autologous transplant, meaning his own stem cells were used, a treatment discovered through research supported and partially funded by the Leukemia & Lymphoma society (lls), whose mission is to cure blood cancers by funding research and to improve quality of life for patients and their families by providing information and support services. Not surprisingly, doug and his wife, gretchen, subsequently became strong supporters of lls, and was named man of the year in 2018, raising over 173,000 for lls.
