Scrap is an arts, environment and education nonprofit with a mission to inspire Creative Reuse and sustainable environmental behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. We diverted 142.37 tons of material from the waste stream by collecting clean and usable Creative materials at our retail locations and sell them at a low cost to teachers, crafters, artisans, families and makers. Our educational program teaches skills in waste reduction, Reuse techniques and environmental stewardship to grades Pre-K through 12, and adults. Early in Scrap's history, the organization was approached to serve as a fiscal sponsor for programs replicating, the Portland, or-based, Scrap model in other States. In 2014, the Scrap board of directors approved a national strategic expansion plan that endeavored to scale Scrap-branded affiliate organizations across the United States. By providing fiscal sponsorship, coupled with training, technical assistance, and adapting programs elements to new locations. In 2020, the Scrap board of directors decided to end fiscal sponsorship opportunities and transition to consulting and technical services provided by the national administrative team. Our future goal is to facilitate successful Creative Reuse projects in communities across the nation. Through this process, we will demonstrate national leadership by empowering communities to capture the environmental, economic, and social benefits associated with building and managing Creative Reuse projects.
