Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in the underdeveloped world. The patients from haiti's medical records were reviewed to decide which patients would benefit the most from cataract surgery. The decision was based on best corrected visual acuity as well as on functional assessment. The patients which were felt to have benefited the most were awarded 300 each to perform their cataract surgery as well as post operative care.
