To promulgate knowledge, understanding, and scientifically sound practices in and for the attainment and maintenance of health, comfort and organic soundness of the eyes of human beings, and appreciation of the vital importance thereof to the well-being of the individual. This overall purpose is to be achieved by the fostering of knowledge developed, studied, and practiced by duly qualified and licensed members of the specialty of ophthalmology.
