YRITFC advocates for responsible harvest quotas and fishery regulations for the Yukon River watershed by participating in state and federal management meetings, submitting special action requests, and working toward CO-management with federal agencies; conducts seasonal sonar and weir sampling and other research at multiple sites to assess salmon run strength, timing, and fish passage; and holds semi-annual commissioner meetings and related gatherings to share management updates, exchange knowledge, and set fishery policies. These activities occur throughout the Yukon River watershed and alaska, are carried out by contracted staff, biologists, and the executive council, and collectively support the conservation and restoration of fisheries for tribal use. Approximately 50% of organizational time is devoted to advocacy, 30% to research, and 20% to tribal and first Nations coordination, funded primarily through federal grants with additional in-kind support.
